On the GITMO website, I’m seeing more confirmation this facility is being primarily used as a Naval base rather than a holding facility. It seems Adm. Faller is being forced to work around the financial deficit he faces at this base. It seems the House rejected his request for facility funds needed in 2019.
In this article, we learn The Department of Defense is considering reducing the number of staff at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. Navy Adm. Craig S. Faller and Southcom Commander told reporters at a Pentagon press briefing that officials are considering "right-sizing" staffing at the prison to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Faller said defense secretary Mark Esper had raised the issue of adjusting the size of operations at the site. He describes the right sizing as a re-balance rather than a reduction.
As of 2019, there were 1800 troops stationed at the detention center. This equates to about 45 guards to each prisoner currently held. This operating cost comes to $13 Million for each prisoner held.
Based on Admiral Faller’s statements, there don’t seem to be any detainees other than the original detainees. Meanwhile, we are coping with an awakening that has sickened us all. These people have committed crimes too horrific to mention. When and where will these criminals of the unthinkable be held accountable? [3]
